Champ L. Baker, III, M.D.

 

    Champ L. Baker, III, MD, grew up in Columbus, GA, and graduated from Brookstone High School. He graduated with honors from the University of Virginia with an undergraduate degree in anthropology. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA, where he was president of the AOA honor society and recipient of the MCG Alumni Scholar award. He completed his internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA.

    Before becoming a member of our staff, Dr. Baker completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL. While at Rush he worked as part of the medical staff for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Steel, and the Depaul University men's and women's basketball teams. Dr. Baker has published numerous articles and book chapters on surgical techniques and clinical outcomes in sports medicine. His clinical research continues at the Hughston Foundation, Inc. and the Hughston Clinic, P.C.

    Dr. Baker is a candidate member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. His specialties include arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He also has an interest in cartilage restoration.

    Dr. Baker and his wife Karin have one son.
