Norman L. Donati, Jr., M.D.

 

    Norman L. Donati Jr., M.D., resides in Thomaston, Ga., where he serves The Hughston Clinics satellite office. He is a native of Memphis, Tenn., and graduated with honors from Memphis State University. Dr. Donati received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1981. His orthopaedic surgery training and specialty fellowship in foot and ankle were both completed at the Campbell Orthopaedic Clinic in Memphis, Tenn.

    Dr. Donati initially began his orthopaedic surgery career in the Orlando-Central Florida area. During this time he was either team physician or associate team physician for the NBA Orlando Magic, the Orlando Solar Bears hockey team, Orlando Cubs AA baseball team, University of Central Florida, Rollins College, the Orlando Predators Indoor football team, and Stetson University. He was also involved with performers and workers at Disney World Orlando, Universal Studios Orlando, and Sea World, Orlando. He was especially involved with the Sea World water ski team.

    In 1996, Dr. Donati relocated his practice to Thomaston, Ga., and has practiced there ever since. He practices general orthopaedics, which includes total joint replacement of the shoulder, knee and hip; sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee and ankle; fracture and trauma care of the upper and lower extremities, and non-operative spine care. Due to his extended training, he has a special interest in foot and ankle surgery.

    During his tenure in Thomaston, Dr. Donati has been the team physician for the Upson Lee High School athletic teams, and has been involved with high school and middle school athletes in the surrounding counties of Pike, Lamar, Taylor, and Meriwether. He also serves as orthopaedic consultant on the sports medicine advisory committee of the Georgia High School Association. Dr. Donati provides orthopaedic care to Childrens Medical Services for special needs children in the Central Georgia area. Dr. Donati provides surgical services for his patients at the Upson Regional Medical Center in Thomaston and at Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Ala.

    Dr. Donati is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, Georgia Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, and The Medical Association of Georgia. He was co-editor of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Instride newsletter from 1994 to 1997 and chairman of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Regional review courses in 1996 and 1998. He has been a presenter and instructor at numerous foot and ankle meetings during his career.
