Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics Welcomes Interventional Spine and Pain Specialist Dr. Matthew P. Rupert
Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics is proud to welcome Dr. Matthew P. Rupert to its team of experienced specialists. With more than 20 years of experience in interventional spine and pain management, 18 of those serving the Franklin and Nashville areas, Dr. Rupert brings expertise in treating chronic pain, spine conditions, and joint issues. He is now seeing patients at Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics’ Franklin, Lebanon, and Nashville locations.
Dr. Rupert is known for delivering patient-centered care using minimally invasive techniques. He is fellowship-trained and board-certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. Among his many treatment options, he offers orthobiologics, an advanced approach that uses the body’s own natural biological materials to support healing and encourage tissue regeneration. His mission is to help patients manage pain, improve daily function, and return to the activities they enjoy without the need for major surgery.
Dr. Rupert holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in biomechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and underwent fellowship training in interventional pain medicine at Texas Tech University. He also received advanced training from the World Institute of Pain. Dr. Rupert is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP) and a Diplomate of the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians (DABIPP). He remains active in research, education, and professional development.
Dr. Rupert’s clinical expertise includes treating back and neck pain, sciatica, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, cancer-related pain, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He performs a wide variety of minimally invasive procedures, such as nerve blocks, spinal injections, the MILD (Minimally Invasive Lumbar Decompression) procedure, Vertiflex spacers, kyphoplasty, neuromodulation, and others. Each patient receives a tailored treatment plan based on their specific condition, goals, and lifestyle.
