Madelyn Cavanaugh, from Saint Louis University (SLU) is the 2021 recipient of the Jim Madaleno, MS, ATC, Scholarship. The Hughston Foundation awards the scholarship annually to a deserving athletic training student in the Southeastern United States. The scholarship committee chooses its winners from CAATE-accredited programs that nominate individuals who have performed with distinction in and out of the classroom. SLU Athletic Training Program Chair, Anthony Breitbach, PhD, ATC, FASAHP, nominated Cavanaugh for the scholarship. Breitbach said, “Cavanaugh is a committed and talented leader, currently serving as the president of SLU’s Chapter of the Iota Tau Alpha Honor Society and she is 1 of 10 district representatives on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Student Leadership Committee (SLC). She will be national Chair for the NATA SLC in 2021-2022.” Outside the classroom, she has been instrumental in the success of the Saint Louis University Miracle Network Dance Marathon, which has raised nearly a half a million dollars for childrens’ hospitals in the St. Louis region over the past several years. The Hughston Foundation Scholarship Committee is pleased to recognize Cavanaugh’s hard work with a $1,500 scholarship to assist her as she continues her education and a career as a certified athletic trainer.
